...and a little more

A few years back I challenged myself to try and write one song a year. Bear in mind I do not have a lick of musical talent in my body. I hear music and get it (often listen to it while writing) but actually reading music and playing an instrument is completely foreign to me, so I figured I'd try the next best thing...write songs that hopefully someone, somewhere, someday will give life to.

Two souls tortured all these years
who would'a thought we'd ever met
An old ex-convict full of tears, scared to hell to take those first steps
Holed up for three decades in a cinder block cell
I gripped that James Bible so tight
Tell the Warden I'm still guilty—if that's what will help me
God I'm sorry for leaving home that night

They said you were crazy, the son of a saint who never knew his own fate
Come on Charlie let's go take this ride, before we find it's too late

I was just a kid, 30 years younger—unsure of the lightning in my head
I saw you coming long before your own freedom, I pray they don't find me dead
It don't make no sense to anyone but me, I know you're my one last shot
Thank God for Thunder, tell Lisa I love her
It's time to go make this thing right

They said I was crazy, my heart felt different—I knew this would be my fate
Come on Jake let's go take this ride before we find it's too late

It was a dream for you, a lifetime of misery for me
A horse tattooed to my back
A colt named Thunder brought us together
I'm afraid man there's no turning back
They'd never believe us if we told the tale, what a fantastic trip it's been
Never thought I'd say it, you taught me a lot, thanks for being a friend

They said you were crazy, the son of a saint who never knew his own fate
Come on Charlie let's go take this ride, before we find it's too late

Now don't you forget my last words for Lisa
I'll wait for her wherever I'll be
Please let her know I finally found peace
My head is clear as can be
She made you promise to bring me home safe, let her know there was no chance of that
Have one last request from my dying breath, tell my boys I'll love them forever

They said I was crazy, I knew I wasn't, this trip has sealed all our fates
Come on Jake let's go take this ride before we find it's too late

Hope
